Treatment of Panic Attacks: Preventative Treatment
Treatment of panick attacks is not at all that hard.
Heart beating, cold sweat, gasping, dizziness — this is not a horror movie but real symptoms of a panic attack. All these symptoms can have very serious consequences up to the necessity of medical attention. Typically a person in a state of anxiety develops a fear of another panic attack which can cause depression and in some cases agoraphobia, the fear of public and open spaces.
In cases of panic attacks and anxiety doctors often prescribe drugs that cause sedation, making it hard for an afflicted person to live and work. These medications can also cause dependency and withdrawal symptoms when they are stopped. So panic attacks appear to be a real problem and modern medications cannot cope with it without a bunch of side effects. But it appears now we have a medication capable to relive a patient from all the symptoms of anxiety without any unwanted consequences.
Is there a safe way to cure anxiety and panic attacks?
In such cases doctors usually order benzodiazepines but there has been a new medication called XBG173 developed recently to deal with anxiety. It has been tested in animals and does not cause any sedation. It doesn’t put brakes on all nervous system as a whole but specifically targets the GABA receptors by stimulating a protein responsible for the production of these receptors. GABA receptors inhibit regions of brain responsible for emotions of panic, fear and anxiety. XBG173 increases development of GABA receptors which block just fear and panic and does not cause seduction and other side effects that common anti-anxiety medicines usually have.
Can you be sure ithe treatment is safe?
Researchers have got positive results of testing new medicine in animals and decided to conduct a test on seventy-one men. All men were divided in three groups: first one received XBG173 to treat anxiety and panic, second group was given alprazolam, a medication for anxiety states based on benzodiazepine, and third one received a placebo. As a result first group treated with XBG173 showed less panic attacks than people that have received alprazolam. Besides there were less side effects in the first group. XBG173 showed better than ordinary anti-anxiety medication in drug withdrawal symptoms.
Is it the answer?
If it looks so good in researches can’t we use the XBG173 in anxiety treatment right now? The point is it showed such good figures in short-term use and now test for long-term treatment safety are required. In case new medicine provides to be safe in prolonged use it will be possible to treat anxiety and panic attacks with a drug that doesn’t cause dizziness and unwanted side effects.
We should note all modern medicines for panic disorders including XBG173 are symptoms oriented and do not cure the disease itself. It is known in some patients hypnosis can be use to cope with fear and anxiety problems. Despite it in case XBG173 shows good long-term treatment results it will be possible to ease patients’ state until more fundamental ways to deal with stress will be developed.
